From my family to yours, wishing you a very happy holiday season and a wonderful new year!
Well, it's been almost 5 months and this is the first official intro of our little man, Wesley Benton Aaron, to the blog. It's rather fitting that today is his late grandfather's, Leonard Wilson, birthday. You see, Wesley's name was plucked from our family tree and Leonard's father's name was…. Wesley Wilson.
His arrival into our lives has been nothing short of incredible! We didn't know our hearts were capable of loving this much! This kid has the happiest little spirit and ever since all the nurses at the hospital called him an "old soul," we completely believe he is. The first two months, he threw us a lot of pop quizzes, and we were all just simply learning about each other. Plus, life as a baby must be terrifying when you can't see much past 12 inches. Then, around the three month mark, this joyful, curious, observant, playful and cuddly little angel emerged and stuck around ever since.
Photographing families and babies has taken on a whole new meaning now. The love between a mother and child has taken a whole new definition as well. Endless hours of selflessness, just experiencing life through this 17 pound bundle of curiosity and helping him learn these new exciting skills (and octaves) couldn't be more fulfilling. I've traded the snooze button for this 5am alarm clock. I rarely make it through the day in the same clothes I initially put on and my new perfume is milk. Editing with both hands has now turned into a one-armed edit, while little one sleeps in the other and this miniature cherub wakes up only caring that I am the singing, smiling, laughing safety net of a mom he fell asleep knowing. The moment he opens his eyes and gives a smile makes this new world of mine the richest it's ever been. Wesley, mama loves you to the moon and back!
Beth & Andrew were married here in Tahoe in 2012 and have made it their tradition to return each anniversary, with their sweet little lady. Since their engagement session in Santa Monica, I've loved being able to capture them each year! Here they are enjoying the south shore of Lake Tshoe!
How lovely that Grey Likes Baby, one of my favorite baby inspiration blogs, featured the Bishop's nursery recently! Check it out to get some nursery inspiration of your own, along with links to where and how Kristyn & Morgan designed the room.
There's a special club of people with whom I've been lucky enough to photograph every main event including engagement, boudoir, wedding day, maternity, newborn and family sessions. Starting with their engagement session, then their wedding, and a gorgeous portrait session, Jillian and Danny have become close friends and it's such a joy to capture this exciting time for them!
We took a little stroll behind their home in Folsom, where many walks will be taken with the little lady who is due in June. Congrats, you two!
I had met the Bishop's back in January, just 2 weeks before little Cohen was born. We had shot an intimate maternity session and then a few family portraits after. After a wonderful home birth experience, Kristyn was ready to capture her new family of four!
When she described the nursery to me, I couldn't wait to see it. Her husband hand-crafted much of the decor and shelving and gave a gorgeously industrial look to an airplane theme. My jaw dropped- how awesome is this room!?
Here they are, little man is about 2 months old here and growing fast to keep up with his older brother, who really knows how to work the camera.
Nikka & Cody. The classic warning of "we're kind of rookies at this" and then they totally blow me away like experienced pros. It's true, in so many sessions, that once you're in the arms of the one person that makes your heart melt, love just falls into place so effortlessly.
Congratulations, you two! So happy our paths crossed!
RAW Beauty Talks is bringing awareness to women's raw beauty and acceptance of self in a world constantly advertising enhancements. Take a peek at this candid interview with Jamie Anderson and peruse the site for endless empowerment! So thrilled to be able to contribute these images!
If you've seen all the media of Jamie since her gold medal win, she is as genuine as they come. A much deserving accomplishment for such a beautiful spirit!
Brandi is a dear friend and talented photographer here in Tahoe at Indigo Photography. We were out to coffee a few weeks back and almost dropped my drink when she said she hadn't planned any maternity portraits yet. And so, this shoot was born- short and sweet, on a chilly Tahoe afternoon.
I'm wishing you all the best, Brandi! Can't wait to meet this little man, who should be arriving any day now!
While Brandi's body has gone through an incredible transformation, growing a baby and all, she's not the only one. According to Brandon, the scale doesn't lie and he's had a little transformation of his own.
A big thank you to Kari Spalinger at Gagewood Lights for snapping this image for me!

The Murray's are near and dear to my heart. Rachel and my friendship dates back to the 8th grade to being roommates in college and keeping an amazing friendship ever since. We had a quick session when I was back in my hometown for Thanksgiving. The boys were so enthusiastic about the shoot - natural showman, for sure! What's the saying… a family that laughs together… stays together? Yeah, these guys are exactly that.
Ben saw a manhole and they peeked down to see if the Ninja Turtles were there. Immediately, he broke into song, dancing to the theme song….. "turtles in a half shell, turtle power!"
It's been almost a year since I last photographed the Burton's and they recently had a new arrival, beautifully little Emily Brynn. Within days of her birth, we captured the official first family portraits just in time for her debut on the holiday cards!
It's been so special to photograph this family since Bridget & Scott's engagement back in 2008. I used to specialize in strictly weddings and boudoir, but as my brides and grooms start their families and reconnect to capture the new events, I find so much joy in being there for maternity, newborn and family sessions. Thank you, Burton's, for inviting me to be along for the ride all these years!
The 2013 Album. Each person that graces the front of my camera becomes part of my family of clients. Whether it's a quick one-time shoot or a full wedding experience, I get to know so many unique people in what, relatively speaking, is a rather short amount of time. The effect that each and every one of these people has, well after their shoot, stays with me. Any photographer can relate to getting emotionally attached to their images. You connect because, well, it's you in the images. I connect because I get to bring out the joy, the beauty, the happiness and the organic moments and deliver this as my job.
It's evident in the holiday cards I receive around this time each year, full of images that clients choose to represent their happiness. My family and personal friend's cards blend seamlessly with those sent from clients and colleagues, from this year and years past. It's melts my heart and if you've sent me one, I save them all. Today, I received a card from the Dyner family, whose wedding I shot back in August of 2008. It's been over five years and they still think to update me on their beautiful lives.
I'm not feeding you a line. I truly, sincerely, deeply feel blessed to know everyone I get to shoot. Putting this post together took all day. It's the kind of thing that happens when you decide to quickly go through some old boxes of photographs and it turns into a full day nostalgia trip. I was trying to keep it short and sweet and then my "one image per shoot" rule turned into a handful and that still didn't even scratch the surface of an annual summary.
There have been so many involved, whether behind the scenes or guests at weddings, that have enrichened my career and life. After 7 years here, I can confidently say that I have attracted this incredible world free of bride-zillas and dramatic folks. The people who hire me are consistently down-to-earth, thoughtful and sincerely good people. You get what you give coudn't ring more true.
So, thank you. To every person in the following images and to those who aren't pictured but made this year another unforgettable one. Here's to another incredible year ahead with those I know and those I'm very excited to meet! Happy New Year!
To the photographers, stylists, videographers, coordinators, florists, bakers, musicians, caterers, officiants, studio manager, and my two best pals - I managed to grab a few shots of a few of you throughout the events we've worked on. There are still so many not pictured to thank for an unforgettable year.
